My 10 Favorite Book-to-Movie Movies

Happy Top Ten Tuesday everyone! This tag was created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s theme:  Movie Freebie — top ten all time favorite movies

I was going to do my top ten all-time fave movies, but I have a long list and would no way be able to pick out my favorite 10. (Clueless would definitely be up there though) So I decided to narrow it down to ‘book-to-movie’ movies because 1. this is a book blog and 2. narrowing down the search helps my decision-making. Otherwise this post would never get finished.

Don’t worry, there’s only one Harry Potter movie on this list. All 8 would be cheating.

Disclaimer: I am not stating that either the book was better or the movie was better in this list, these are just movies that I really like. Also, this list is in no particular order.

1. Coraline

The perfect blend of both creepy and heartwarming. Plus, I am super impressed with the animation and that all the clothes were made by hand. (by one woman, nonetheless)

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Don’t ask me why, out of all the Harry Potter movies, this is the one I picked. I don’t have a clear answer for you. It was fun. Everyone had long hair. Cedric Diggory was there. Plus:

3.Me Before You

I was not expecting to love the movie as much as I ended up loving it. I thought it would just be a cheesy imitation but it wasn’t! It was so well cast and the cinemography was beautiful and I may have cried a little. Also, I may or may not have a thing for Sam Claflin.

4.Catching Fire

It’s only natural that my favorite book in the series would be my favorite movie in the series. Can you tell I have a Sam Claflin theme going here  I gave Catching Fire 5 stars while I gave The Hunger Games only 3 and couldn’t even be bothered to finish Mockingjay. I don’t know, it’s just something about a clock-based killing arena that really sparks my interest. The movie really brought that to life. 10/10.

5.Peter Pan

Peter Pan is definitely one of my guilty pleasure movies. It has its problems, for sure, but I grew up watching it over and over. And over. Also, Peter and Wendy may have been my first ship.

6. The Devil Wears Prada

Okay, confession. I never and most likely will never read this book. But the movie was, like, revolutionary for me. Being a badass woman in the fashion industry was my 12 year old dream job.

7. Pride & Prejudice

Can you say cinematic masterpiece?? I’ve watched this movie so many times and I’m still not tired of it. That scene of Darcy and Elizabeth out in the rain gets me every time. Plus, I love Keira Knightly.

8. The Princess Bride

Again, I never read the book but honestly I feel like the movie would lose its magic if I did read it. The movie is so funny and ridiculous and charming and I love all of it. I’d like to personally thank Westley for setting my expectations for men way too high.

9. Howl’s Moving Castle

I feel like I’m saying the word magical a lot, but there is literally no other way to describe this movie. The dialogue, the characters, the story, and the animation combine to create nothing short of a magical experience. Please, please, watch this movie. I can’t recommend it enough.

HARDCORE

10. The Princess Diaries

Awww, this is such a feel-good movie. It’s funny with a positive message and it’s great to watch when you feel down. Plus, Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are in it. Need I say more??
