Do you guys ever sit down and think back to all the book tags in your queue and get so overwhelmed by them that you just end up doing nothing? I hope at least one of you said yes because hey, same! That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. And I’ve decided that this isn’t a mindset I want to be in so now I’m getting out of it! And hey look at that- it’s Book Tag Saturday. What a perfect alignment to stop my procrastination.
Anyway, hello all, and welcome back to my blog, where the book tags are sparse and almost always done months late but I still end up having a lot of fun doing them. This particular one is the Norse Mythology Book Tag, and I was tagged by the wonderful @meltingpotsandothercalamities! Thank you for tagging me! Plus, I know next to nothing about Norse mythology aside from the Thor movies, so I’m pretty excited to learn more about it!
- Link back to my original post on Kyera’s Library so I can see all your answers! (Be sure to do this via pingback, I don’t get notified if you just tag my URL)
- Thank the person(s) who tagged you… show the community some love!
- Obviously, come up with your wonderful answers!
- Don’t forget to tag others to keep the tag going!
ODIN – FAVORITE STAND ALONE
Odin is the All-Father, the leader of the Norse Gods. He is the god of wisdom, poetry, battle, death, wine, and war, among other things.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Jamie gushing about how great Fangirl is for the thousandth time. What a surprise.
THOR – A BOOK THAT HITS YOU IN THE FEELS
Thor is the god of thunder, weather, warriors, strength, and storms, so his might packs a punch. He is married to the beautiful Lady Sif.
Secret of a Heart Note! If the feels we’re talking about are just warm and fuzzy. This isn’t a book that’s going to rip your heart in half or save your soul or anything, but it’s one of the few that made me feel really inspired and hopeful while reading it and I want to pass that feeling on because it’s the best.
LOKI – BIGGEST BOOK PLOT TWIST OR CHARACTER BETRAYAL
Loki is the god of mischief, thieves and thrives on chaos.
The real plot twist is how great Loki’s character arc was in Thor Ragnarok. Can that be my answer? No?? Okay, fine. I can’t think of anything so I’m going to say The Raven Boys…I haven’t finished the series yet but I just KNOW something is going to happen and I don’t know what it is and I’m so scared. Plus, there was a plot twist in the first book so if I’m wrong and there’s no twist at the end of the series I can just pretend I was talking about that one.
FRIGG – OTP
Frigg is Odin’s wife, the goddess of love, marriage, fertility, and fate.
Sophie and Howl in Howl’s Moving Castle? I gotta squeeze my favorite book in here somehow. I don’t think I have a book OTP, but Sophie and Howl are definitely the most recent book couple that I’ve really loved together.
HEIMDALL – FAVORITE SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES
Heimdall is the god of loyalty, faithfulness and he is who protects the bi-frost, the bridge that connects all nine worlds.
A Gathering of Shadows– this book actually saved the series for me. I was on the fence with the first one so I had no expectations going into the second, but AGoS just blew me away. It’s amazing!! (As like 90% of you already know.)
BALDUR – FAVOURITE MALE CHARACTER
Baldur is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, twin brother of Hodor.
Whoops, I’m going to bring up Howl’s Moving Castle again. Listen. Howl is the most interesting male character I’ve ever seen (or…read?) and I still can’t believe he’s someone that was created by the human mind and is not, in fact, an ethereal being from some alternate universe.
SIF – MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK COVER
Lady Sif is known for her beautiful golden tresses, although she is also the goddess of the harvest and is married to Thor.
Ohhh, there’s so many to choose from. I’m reading Tess of the Road right now, and every time I pick it up to read it, I accidentally just spend like 5 minutes staring at the cover. It’s so detailed and simplistic at the same time and overall just really cool to look at. Can you tell by my use of the word ‘cool’ that I’m taking an art class?
FREY – BOOK/SERIES THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
Frey is the Lord of weather, god of light, summer, master of agriculture, fertility, and brother of Freya.
There’s so many I could pick for this! Which is something I should remind myself of since all the books I’ve been reading lately have been underwhelming. I talked about this book a bit in my Best of 2017 list buuut…Radio Silence! It’s not the fluffiest book- it gets pretty dark at times- but I just remember feeling so warm and ready to take on the future once I finished it.
FREYA – FAVORITE BOOK SETTING
Freya is the goddess of love and beauty, fertility, war, wealth and growth, and sister of Frey.
Of course, it’s gotta be Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Reading about Harry, Ron, and Hermione while they’re in their classes, or going to visit Hagrid, or just walking around the halls makes me feel like I’m home!
TYR – FAVORITE BOOK WITH A BIG UPHEAVAL/EPIC FIGHT SCENE
Tyr is the god of war
Hmmm, I’m gonna go with Scythe. I don’t want to go too into detail, but what happened at the end of the book can definitely be described as an upheaval.
ULLER – CHARACTER DEATH THAT AFFECTED YOU THE MOST
Uller is the god of death, winter, archery and hunting.
Oh no, spoilers!! I can’t think of one that doesn’t spoil the book so I’m just gonna skip this one. (but psst…their name rhymes with mysterious)
NJORD – FAVORITE BOOK AN EPIC JOURNEY ON WATER/OCEAN SETTING
Njord is the god of the wind and the sea.
This is a very specific question…hmm…I have read some of these books but unfortunately I haven’t liked any of them. Instead, I’m going to cheat and say the movie Moana because it’s one of my all-time faves.
VALKYRIE – FAVORITE STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER
The Valkyries, much like the Amazons, are strong female warriors.
You know what, I was trying to think of a strong warrior for this question but I feel like that’s so overdone. I’m gonna go with Nimona – she’s not exactly a hero; she’s kind of unlikable, and fiercely independent, and actually pretty evil, but she’s nothing if not strong!
AESIR/VANIR – FAVORITE BOOK “CREW”
The Aesir and the Vanir are the two groups of Norse gods, believed to be the old and new gods.
Oh wow, how did The Raven Boys get on here again? But since its here, the boys and Blue are so great together. I love how they interact so authentically and all of their relationships with one another are so solid and unique.
SEIPYRTS – FAVORITE SIDEKICK (NON-HUMAN CHARACTER)
Seipyrts is Odin’s trusty eight legged steed, yes you heard that correctly – eight legs. I promise that he is the god’s horse companion and not a giant spider that he rides around on… although that would probably strike more fear in the hearts of his enemies than a pretty horse does.
Oh no, I can’t think of one. I mean I can, but I’m not gonna say The Raven Boys for the third time. Or Harry Potter. Or Howl’s Moving Castle. Man, I really repeated myself in this tag, huh. Why aren’t there more books with animal companions??
And that’s the tag! I’m not going to tag anyone specifically this time around, but if you like the Thor movies as much as I do, or if you’re into Norse mythology, consider yourself tagged!
Do you guys agree or disagree with any of my answers? Do you want to have a lengthy discussion about Thor Ragnorak? Do you know of any good books with animal companions?? If so, let me know in the comments! ❤
