Top 10 Books I Lost Interest In

Hello, all! It’s been a while since I’ve last done a Top Ten Tuesday, huh. But, finally, this week’s topic is something I am unfortunately all too familiar with…since I love buying books and then never touching them. This week’s theme of Top Ten Tuesday (now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is:

February 20: Books I’ve Decided I’m No Longer Interested in Reading

That’s not to say that the books I’m gonna talk about in this post are books that I’m never going to read; I did buy most of these books, so I might just read them for the guilt of spending money alone. But, these are all books that I was once really excited to read and now don’t really care about anymore.

(Also in no specific order.)

The Divergent series – I’ve just missed the window for this series, I think. I’m pretty sure my love for dystopian novels started and ended with The Hunger Games, and now I’m never going to pick up another one. I got caught up in the hype like 5 years ago and ended up buying this book, and now it’s just covered in dust on my bookshelf. It’s kind of depressing to look at.

Love Letters to the Dead – I have a complicated history with this book. I actually started reading this a few years ago, then I had to return it to the library before I could finish it. I really wanted to know how it ended, but then suddenly the next day I was over it and I never borrowed it again. Every so often I see this book in the library and I’m like, “You can just take it. It’s free. You can finish this book if you want,” and I never care enough to pick it back up.

Shatter Me – Like Divergent, this was a book that was very popular in my high school when it came out, and, like Divergent, I gave in to the hype. Except I’m shallow and didn’t like the cover so I didn’t buy it, and my library didn’t have it. So… I never read it. And then I graduated and the weird high-school bubble I was in popped and I immediately stopped caring about it. It was a weird experience all around.

Red Queen – When this book came out, I heard nothing but praise and rave reviews. I was so excited to read it. And I bought it. In hardcover, which is how you know I was excited. And then I got too scared to read it because my expectations were so high, and time went on, and then a lot of people started criticizing it and hating on it. So now I’m just…disenchanted, I guess? I don’t know. I don’t trust this book anymore to read it.

Wintersong & Gilded Cage – I’m lumping these two together because I had the exact same experience for both of them. I was really excited for these to come out last year, and it was around the time where I was reading book reviews 24/7, and basically all the reviews for both of these were real negative. So I kept pushing them down the TBR, and now I have no interest in picking them up. There’s just so many other books to read.

The Nine Lives of Chloe King – Listen. I don’t know if you guys even know what this book is. I don’t even know what it is. But, what I do know is that it’s almost 800 pages long. And that’s the only reason I bought it. I don’t know what this book is about, but my caveman brain saw a huge book and immediately had to have it. So now I just have it. And don’t want to read it at all. Whoops.

And now for Jamie’s Shame Corner, A.K.A the series I’ve started and have no intention of finishing:

A Clash of Kings – I read the first GoT book so long ago, and I forget everything that happened. And I don’t care enough to remember, tbh.

Queen of Shadows – I actually really liked the first two books in the Throne of Glass series. And then the third book…uh…happened, and I wasn’t into the direction it was going in, so I never picked up the 4th book. I am reading the Court of Thorns and Roses series though, and thankfully I’m liking it a lot more.

City of Glass – Okay, I absolutely loved this series when it first came out. And then I got caught up after the third book, and stopped reading the new books when they came out. So recently I tried to reread this series so I can finally finish up the series that my younger self was obsessed with, and it just wasn’t as good as I remembered. I am reading the other Shadowhunter series though, because they’re great. This one…is not, though.

Aaaand those are the top ten books that I lost interest in! Did you guys read these books? Did anyone read The Nine Lives of Chloe King?? I’m genuinely curious if it’s any good so I can be somewhat justified for buying it. What are some of the books you guys were excited to read and then stopped caring about? Let me know! ❤

  1. I read Queen of Shadows and loved it, but I have to agree with you on Shatter Me. Shatter Me actually made it onto my Top Ten Tuesday for various reasons. I think I head good things about The Nine Lives of Chole King when it was making its rounds but haven’t read it.

  2. I agree with quite a few books on your list. TMI is a mediocre series at best and I have no idea why people love it so much. Nostalgia, maybe? As for Red Queen, I love dystopia, but the opinions are very mixed. Apparently, it has the same tropes and nothing original.
